I use a paring knife to cut my fruit, and that doesn't make me old.

It also doesn't make me a farmer.

But every time I have fruit in front of someone and I use a paring knife, they make some snarky comment about how I'm "old" or a "farmer".

Look, I am neat-and-tidy kind of guy.  I don't like fruit juice running down my face, nor do I like it running through my fingers.  So, I use a paring knife and therefore have no mess to worry about.  Apples, peaches, pears, plums - you name it... I use the knife.  Nice and clean, easy peasy.

Now, if I used a paring knife to cut my fruit, mashed it into a fine paste, took out my dentures, and then drank it... that would indeed make me old.  But I think I have a few years of chewing left in me, so I'll stop at the first step.
