These nursery rhymes would never get published today.

Have you ever noticed that some of the older nursery rhymes would never get published in a book today?  Look back at of your old kid's books from the 60's, 70's, or 80's, and the content will be pretty shocking.  These pictures are from a book of nursery rhymes by Mother Goose, from 1984.


There Was An Old Woman (who lived in a shoe)
Since when is it acceptable to promote corporal punishment?  Look at the poor bunny on the right of the picture - he just got his spanking and is holding his bum and crying.  WTF?  Mommy bunny sure looks pissed as she's wailing on the little one over her knee.  You gonna cry before bed?  No bread for you.  Go to bed hungry, you little bastards.

I never ever heard of this one as a child... is there a hidden message behind this nursery rhyme?  For some reason, I picture some creepy old man writing this one, thinking he's  clever... like the story is about a cat.  Filthy.
